The 20-plus-year specialist joins Align as a Healthcare Advisory Consultant and Licensed Real Estate Salesperson

November 3, 2021 — Align Healthcare Real Estate LLC., a newly launched medical and dental real estate brokerage serving the New York Tri-State Region and other parts of the Northeast, has hired healthcare operations executive James Karaman as a Healthcare Advisory Consultant and Licensed Real Estate Salesperson.

“Jim has a depth of knowledge of how health systems and hospitals work and what the needs of their doctors are, which will really round out what we have to offer and enable us to provide highly advanced, strategic advisory services. We are excited to welcome him to our team,” says John Masserano, who, along with partner Joseph Lombardi founded Align Healthcare Real Estate as well as Masserano Real Estate and Consulting.

Karaman has worked for a variety of hospital and health system brands in his 20-plus-year-long career as a healthcare operations executive. He has specialized in developing and implementing strategic, business and operational initiatives that drive optimal results in complex healthcare organizations.

“I’ve always worked in hospitals and health systems as the client, so I saw this new position as an opportunity to work on the other side with clients,” says Karaman. “I bring a lot of value to the firm in terms of healthcare strategy and knowledge, and I believe that there’s a lot of synergy and a multi-dimensional approach. At Align, we’re committed to focusing on a more comprehensive strategy, including working with both real estate owner/developers and end users of hospitals, health systems, surgery centers and physician practices, as well as dental practices.”

Before joining Align, Karaman served as Vice President of Operations for Hudson Regional Hospital, which is based in Secaucus, N.J. In that position, he was responsible for the day-to-day operations of hospital-based, outpatient clinic and physician practice functions. He managed multiple construction and renovation projects and participated in strategic planning, physician recruitment and practice acquisitions.

He previously served as Vice President of Physician and Business Development at the Edison, N.J.-based Hackensack-Meridian Health System. In that position, he promoted team member and leader development and implemented service improvements that increased patient and physician satisfaction and supported volume goals. Before that, he was Vice President of Strategy and Market Development at the Rahway, N.J., location of Robert Wood Johnson Healthcare System where he implemented a number of new programs, including a physician alignment and recruitment initiative. In each of these roles Karaman gained hands-on insights into the innerworkings of various aspects of healthcare practices, notably including profit and loss statement, cashflow analysis and patient acquisition strategy that are extremely valuable in helping Align Healthcare Real Estate better guide the business decisions of its clients.

Adding to the depth of relationships beneficial to Align’s clients, Karaman has also held leadership positions with other large healthcare systems, including St. Peter’s University Healthcare System in New Brunswick, N.J.; AtlantiCare Healthcare System in Egg Harbor, N.J.; and Centrastate Healthcare System in Freehold, N.J. In addition, for several years he has served as an Adjunct Professor with the Leon Hess School of Business at Monmouth University in West Long Branch, N.J.

Karaman earned a Master of Business Administration from Monmouth University; a Master of Public Administration with a concentration in Healthcare Administration from Kean University in Union, N.J.; and a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from Kean University.
